P5. Produce an offline edit of the promo
P6. Carry out post-production processes to edit the audio-visual material to produce the final product
Editing Techniques |
IMAGE 1 and 2 - Both of these images show how I used the overlap technique bu placing footage on top of each other. Doing this makes the current video playing change to the one that is on top without cutting out any of the sound out, once the footage placed above ends, the footage underneath keeps on playing without having been paused. This was useful to me because I was aiming for my main footage to also act as background music and commentary for the documentary, this is a conventional technique in documentary.
IMAGE 3 and 4 - Both of these images show how I placed titles and credits in my product and where I got them from. I placed the title over the footage in between the first shot of my interviewee’s shot. Both the title and credit where obtained from Final Cut Pro's title library. IMAGE 5 - This image show the fade to black technique I used to end the documentary. As Final Cut Pro didn't completely offer this edit, I had to improvise and used a simple fade to next shot, instead of filling the last shot with footage, it is a simple image of the shade of black. Doing so makes it look like a fade to black that helps me clearly end the product. IMAGE 6 - This screenshot show a scale to alter the size of the visuals of the footage, I used this because I realised it was conventional for documentaries to have many different kinds of shots such as close ups and medium shots from many angles, as I lacked in close up shots, I scaled up the appearance of the footage for some of the shots, doing so it made the footage appear as if it was taken as a close up shot. The consequences from this decision is that although it looks like a close up, the quality of the video going down as I zoomed in can be distracting for the audience. |
IMAGE 7 and 8 - In this image it shows how I edited the sound by enhancing the footage's audio with the tool named Voice Enhance, this tool allows me to drown out sounds that are anything other than a voice speaking. When I then decided to alter the sound levels of the footage's audio, the effect prevents the drown out sound from being heard.
M3. Justify the visual and audio effect used within the promo
Within my media product, there can be found many different visual and audio effects within my documentary.
One of the visual effects are used for my media product was the use of scaling up the zooming of the video to make the footage appear as it had been taken as a close-up instead of a medium shot. I needed to do this as I lacked a range of different shots taken in the interview. Doing so would make my documentary seem more conforming with the conventional kind of documentary as most documentaries have many shots taken when doing an interview, this would also help the audience to convince that this is a professional media product.
For the beginning and the end are used both of title in credit scene, for the title I place it in between the footage instead of the very beginning, I did this because I believed that having an establishing shot of my character or interviewee would be suitable for documentaries opening scene.
The credits scene at the end happens when my character or interviewee is walking away, this is very similar to the establishing shot are used and the only difference is that my character is walking away. Both of the titles and credits were found on Final Cut Pro’s library.
For my media product, I did not use any noticeable sound effects. The sound effects are used for my product was a Voice Enhancer and altering sound level. My reason for using Voice Enhancer was because I needed to drown out the background sound that could be heard in my video, this editing technique prevents the background sound within the footage to be noticed by the audience, if the audience were to hear the background sound then that would appear as distracting and make my product difficult to understand. I also altered the sound levels to ensure that the voice of my interviewee could be heard even though there was music being played in the background. I also use the sound levels to lower the footage audio I didn’t need to be heard as clearly as the main voice. This technique can be found in many different documentaries as they all follow the convention of the commentator or narrator to be heard clearly over the sound of music and footage audio.
For the music I used in this media product, I aimed to find a soundtrack that could appear as formal and for those of a younger age to maintain an interesting vibe. I placed the soundtrack to be heard as background music for the documentary, this is a conventional technique that can be found in many different documentaries. This soundtrack was found on YouTube and it is a non-copyrighted song.
