P4. Present the exported extract to an audience, obtaining feedback
Online Edit
M3. Evaluate feedback from the audience, identifying strengths and weaknesses
Feedback
Positives - The antagonist’s acting
- The editing (timing sounds and video)
- Music used
- A simple and clear story that is good for 5 minutes
Negatives - Lewis (antagonist) have more screen time
- Lewis in a shot that was meant to be shot by him, makes no sense to the story
After have been given feedback, I realised that what my classmates suggested to correct for example the scene where my antagonist appears in a shot when he should not be, should be corrected. This mistake would usually classify as a movie mistake as the antagonist is not meant to be on screen and defeats the moment of the plot. Another valid concern would be that my antagonist does not appear as much as the other characters on screen, this can be a concern as story development needs to progress with both the protagonist and the antagonist in the short film, therefore next time considering giving my antagonist more screen time will perhaps convey better the character’s objective. Although if I give too much screen time to my antagonist, the convention of mystery in the thriller genre would have been compromised. To keep a good balance, at least showing the antagonist's motives for the crimes that have been committed would make the audience more interested in the character.
As for the positives, such as using music, sound effects, direction for the actors and writing of the story were as successful as I followed popular conventions that can be found in thriller films such as moments of suspension using eerie music, sound effects to jump scare the audience and long still shots of the actors emotions for the audience to better understand the characters. Following these conventions helped me achieve so many positive comments for my film.
To conclude, I am happy with the way that my production turned out. My aim in the production was to make the short film seem as a thriller using camera, editing and direction techniques. Whilst the production I realised that having a good story is what really will capture the audience in to the short film and making sure there are no movie mistakes is a priority as it defeats the illusion of the short film.
