Evidence of editing
Here bellow is my editing for my final product, the editing was done on Adobe Audition
D2. Evaluate the flow of the programme content and audio levels
After listening to my final product, I personally feel as if it turned out well in the end. The radio contains two different perspectives of the same situation, one from the eyes of students and one from an education researcher. I tried to keep the mood with the students up beat as if we were having a friend to friend conversation. Although evaluating it one more time makes me realise more things I could have added and changed.
To begin with I should have played more with the audio settings as I feel the sound of the voices could have been better. Also adding a bit of distance between me and the mic is necessary as I sometimes got too close and disrupted the audio levels. Looking back on some conventions from the heart radio studio, they used professional sound equipment that helped them adjust the audio levels of the mic to sound as best as possible. Another mistake I made on the production day was not turning of my phone which led to me taking out a section of my guest’s speech. When selecting music, I feel like I could have chosen better music that would be more to the likes for the audience.
Apart from that, using the sound studio that comes with sound proof walls and the professional equipment inside such as a computer, headphones and software was very helpful and made my product as professional as possible. With this equipment I was able to edit the sound to take out any mistakes from myself and the guests, at times we had moments were the flow of the conversation ended, so I had to bring in small questions to keep the guests engaged. My aim was to make the conversation at most 5 minutes to be able to have a near 30 minute radio production. Using the computer, I extracted the sound files in WAV, this means the recording is reproduced without any loss in audio quality, the files are also fairly easy to process and edit. The music I ended up selecting are the ones that can be found in the Final Cut Pro library as they are free to use, otherwise I would be needing to find some royalty free music, otherwise I would need a PRS license for my radio production. My budget is incredibly limited and so choosing to use royalty free music is for the best.
The strengths I can identify in my radio production are to begin with the topic we are talking about, the topic of education is something everyone can identify with and therefore have the possibility of feeling interested in the topic. Another strength are the guests perspectives, before starting the show I informed my guests about what we will be talking about, this gave them time to formulate any ideas they had when answering any questions. Having these guests were a benefit when speaking about topic of eduction as the students were year 13, they had a great amount of experience attending school, so then their opinions would be very easy to agree with as many people are on the same boat. Also having an education researcher was very helpful as we got to hear out the professional perspective on the matter, the audience hearing a former researcher agree can make the audience feel relieved to know that someone like my call in guest agrees.
As it was asked from me from the brief, my radio show has to conform with the guidelines (entertain, inform and educate) when carrying out my production. My show can be seen as entertainment as it offers music in between the interviews, the music is short as I would want my audience to keep their interest in the topic we were discussing, I added the break for the people listening as this may be a subject they would also want to discuss amongst themselves. When conducting the interview I made sure to keep the conversation friendly and a bit informal so the audience doesn’t feel like they are listening to the news, as my target audience are those from the ages of 14 and 22 keeping the radio programme entertaining is essential. My radio show can also be seen as informative as I am providing the audience the perspectives that many students have of the current school system in place. If there are adults listening, they may like to know how school feels for the current generation going in and coming out of school. Also having an education researcher as guests also allows the audience to understand their perspective on the situation. Lastly my show can be seen as educational as I provide information about other school systems around the world and give details one what are the things they do differently than the UK. For fist time listeners, this can be a learning experience as these are interesting topics that aren’t usually spoken about in schools.
Overall I believe my radio show turned out fairly well, I had several strengths within the topic and story of the show, although the quality of production could have many improvements.
