WORKING TITLE AND SUMMARY
My title for the short film will be "Stalked". The story centres on a young student who goes to school in Cambridge, and believes is being stalked by someone but can't tell who. Eventually, the protagonist notices who the stalker is by the small clues left by in the film. The film will end in a cliffhanger of the stalker deliberately trapping the victim in a room on their own. The feedback I got from my classmates was to ensure the story had more detail on both the story and the character involved. The characters for my short film will be- Protagonist- Jack - He is a normal everyday student at one of the colleges in Cambridge. Antagonist - Stalker - The stalker will remain anonymous to give a better feel of thriller to the short film. The ident Protagonist friend - Sam Extra - Desmond Narrative Techniques I will be using a form of POV through the camera to show the perspective of the stalker using the camera to stalk the student. I will also want to maybe add a voice over to the stalker over the video on the camera. Theme I would describe the theme of this story as ------- because the character in the film has no idea who is the person filming him. This causes the protagonist to suspect those around him such as friends. |
Target audience
The audience will have to be over the age of 15 as the age rating on it will be 15 and over. The audience will most likely want to have a feeling of thrill when watching the short film. As this is a student film, I will be placing this online as that would be free. If I were to have a medium budget, I could put the film on a screening on the release and if the budget was large I would be able to screen it in a cinema.

1st Short FilmGenre conventions - The conventions of this short film is that the protagonist is not aware of who is contacting him through his own phone, it gives the audience a feeling of uncertainty and this creates feeling of fear and danger towards a individual.
Target Audience - The target audience of this short film would be aimed at those of the age of 12 and older because the theme in the short film is not dark. Although it calls it self a thriller, it has more action and comedy that the conventional film which is why it could appeal to a younger audience. Plataform - This short film was published on Youtube by a channel called TuperHero. Because this film seems to want to appeal to a younger audience, making the film widely accessible for anyone will help them gain popularity. Mise-en-scene - In this short film, the locations filmed are real locations as the production would want to stick to realism to be as effective as possible. Colour - The colours are dark at the beginning to show that it is nighttime. The bad guys can be identified by the dark clothing they are wearing. The cinematography is quite realistic as the colour of the environment seems like any other location. Shots - The interesting part of this film is that it was all mostly taken with point of view shots as this can also be of great interest to those who are younger because that come in with todays trends on video games such as POV and VR. Sound - The sound is also in the perspective of the character as no non-diegetic sounds will be played in the film, everything you hear is heard by the character. Another detail they have taken in account was the placement of sound surrounding. For example when the character was answering the phone, you would hear the voice of the caller on one side of your ear. Editing - A great portion of this film is taken in one take such as the scenes of the character moving away from the house and driving a car. When the film changes locations indicating the character has reached the his intended location, they use a simple cut while maintaining the camera angle the same. |
2nd Short filmGenre conventions - The conventions of this short film is that both of the characters being shown seem to be hiding who they are and what they can do. This shows that this film is a thriller because the audience does not know what to expect from both characters. In the end of the film we find out who was the more dangerous one despite any stereotypes.
Target Audience - The target audience for this film would be rated for twelve as it doesn't show any on screen violence, the film would only give the audience a feeling of danger for the woman from the man as the man appears to be very straight forward. The character's ages in the film can also symbolise who this film would appeal the most too. Plataform - The channel TheBuffNerds are the ones who published this online on YouTube, this could be because the short film was produced by a smaller production that only wishes to become more popular and hear reviews of their films instead of making money. Mise-en-scene - The location of the film is in a deserted location to show that the character is alone and in danger. The costume the actress is wearing is to give a bit of backstory on who the character is as the audience still doesn't know anything about the character. Colour - The colour of the film seems to have been colour corrected because the background is more blue than it would be in reality. This colour could have been used to give the audience the feeling of insecurity and alertness. Shots - The whole film was taken in one shot, this will surprise the audience as they are paying attention to the story and not the movement of the camera. Sound - Suspenseful music is placed once the man stops the car, this makes the audience believe that the man is a danger to the woman Editing - The only editing in the film is the colour correction, |
Setting and location
The film may take place outside for some of the parts, for example the footage of the protagonist taken from the antagonist. Outside locations will be the school and the outer gate, but nothing further to prevent difficulty with the production. For other parts of the film it will be taken within the school building such as the atrium and C- Block.

Equipment
As usual, I wont be needing high production film equipment simply because this is a student film, meaning I wont be selling it. I'll be using my own phone camera and a tripod for the production. The tripod will be borrowed, so therefore I wont be paying anything.

Job Roles
The job roles needed for this film will be a camera man, a director and the actors. I will be the one to take over as directors and from time to time camera man if needed as I am free and the brief says so. For the camera operator roll I feel anyone could do that job, so I'll ask a friend to be cheap. For my actors I'll also be using friends although if there is anyone who would want to progress the acting career within my movie is free to do so. This is because it is difficult for actors to have a start in their careers when casting can be so selective, if an actor wants to use this film in their portfolio then that would be beneficial for the both of us because I would use them for free.

Budget
My budget for this film is next to nothing, I don't plan to buy anything other than food for the actors. This will also help progress through the production faster. All the equipment I will be using is free and provided by the school. For help with the staff such as camera operator and actors, I will be using friends, I'll buy their labour with pizza and nothing more.
If I need more money incase of a change of plans, I could start a crowdfunding and sponsorship with the school and online websites like Patreon. I could advertise my ideas along with that I am a school student in need of funding , but I don't think that will be needed.

Legal and ethical issues
The legal issues I could encounter is copyright if I use content without permission, to prevent this from happening I will be needing to use copy-right free content or make the content myself. If there is a copyrighted material that I want to use, having written permission with benefit me and give me legal right to use it.
I will also need a safety- risk document to have the actors sign that I am not to be held responsible incase they get hurt as I am telling them the dangers and they are agreeing to it.
The ethical issues here is to make sure the film sticks to the age rating because if it is to threatening then the film will have to be rated 18 which defeats the point of the brief.
