P4: Research and plan content for an article
The story I want to do is about how the British education is not as good as people may think and
should be updated, and then compare it to the Finnish education which is one of the leading schools
in the world which has a much more different school system that many people may prefer. I think
that by doing this news, I might get the attention of parents and students and this story may have
a shot at becoming viral if it gets broadcasted. I have an interest in this story as I have seen many
people on youtube complain about it like Boyinaband who made the video “Don't Stay In School”.
After seeing many people react to it like teachers and adults, I felt that this would be a good story
to tell to those who are still in school.
What I want to cover about the Finnish schools is how they have fewer hours a day in school, more
free time, less homework and no national tests. By showing this along with some interviews explaining
both perspectives of a Finnish teacher and a British teacher this has a good chance of getting people’s
attention. The interview I have with a British teacher will hopefully reveal some facts that many people
don’t know is happening within schools. It will also give a chance for the teachers to speak out what
is it that they have on their minds of the current school system.

News values in my article
Frequency. This type of issue is an ongoing event, and it can be quite common in news however
rarely you see a comparison with another country education.
Threshold . My article will not use any sensational words to make it more exaggerated because
it will be used on the BBC.
Unambiguity. The article will be meaningful for people in the UK such as students, teachers and
parents because all three audiences have a relation to the article's topic.
News worthiness. I think this news will be worthy because this article is targeting the nation's
education and everyone who has gone to school and in school will agree with
the evidence gathered by the article.
Consonance. I don't believe this will apply to my article that I have presented.
Unexpectedness. I feel like this is a subject everyone knows about, therefore it should not
unexpected.
Reference to elites. My article shows this because it speaks of the UK's educational system, and the
UK is seen as a powerful country.
Personalisation. This article will generalise teachers in the UK and schools in the Finnish
Education.
Negativity. My article is about education, it does not mention anything negative

BBC News story "Toto Riina, Mafia 'boss of bosses', dies in jail aged Frequency The deaths of major bosses in the mafia are very unlikely, and therefore this would rarely happen. Threshold- Threshold was probably used to exaggerate the boss's rank within the mafia. Although this article was written by the BBC meaning, they would not have used any Unambiguity The report would not be meaningful for everyone because the boss was already in prison, meaning many people would not have heard of him until now. Newsworthiness In my opinion this news story is not that newsworthy because this story is from Italy, meaning it would not affect the UK in any way. Consonance I could not find an example for this because the story is not about a controversial topic Unexpectedness There isn't anything unexpected in the article because everything that has happened to the mafia boss was for a reason like his heart condition or reason for being in prison Reference to elites I could not find an example of this in this article because the story does not talk about the effects done on the country Personalisation This story is relevant mostly to the people in Sicily and the family of the boss. Negativity- The article does not criticise anything because it is meant to be unbiased |
